Last week Diane Abbott, MP for Hackney North and Stoke Newington, attended the year 6 Graduation Ceremony at Grazebrook Primary School.  The Ceremony had an international theme as a celebration of the ethnic and cultural diversity of the graduating year 6 students.  The students were presented with their graduation certificates by The Deputy Speaker/Mayor of Hackney, Ms Afolasade Bright and local MP Ms Abbott.

Diane Abbott said: “I was extremely happy to take part in the graduation ceremony at Grazebrook Primary School today.  All the kids I met were happy, bright and full of potential. I was very impressed with their early achievements. I am absolutely confident that their education here at Grazebrook Primary School has provided them with the proper educational foundation necessary for secondary school.”

Abbott added: “I always enjoy visiting Hackney schools as they are an absolutely central part of our local community.  I am especially fond of our primary schools because the children here are always so positive and ambitious. I was particularly impressed with the South African dance performed by the students as it revealed the communal and multi-cultural spirit of the school.”

Abbott concluded: “Choosing to celebrate the diversity of our Hackney communities was a particularly fitting theme. It is integral to the primary education of our children that they are taught to embrace and learn from that diversity.”
