15 Dec 2009
Following a visit to Our Lady’s Convent High School last week, Diane Abbott MP praised the school for its exceptional results at GCSE level in 2009 and for the glowing Ofsted inspection report it received earlier the same year.

In 2009 Our Lady’s achieved its highest ever GCSE results with 69% of students gaining 5 A*-C grades including English and Maths and 84% of students achieving 5 A*-C grades overall. The school also received a Grade 2 (good) judgment from the January Ofsted inspection, and Diane was pleased to hear from the Headteacher of Our Lady’s that there are ambitions to take the school much further forward.

On returning from her visit Diane said:

“I thoroughly enjoyed my visit to Our Lady’s Convent High School, which included a specially guided tour by three sixth form students. I was thrilled to speak to a range of pupils and see the innovative methods teachers were using to keep students engaged with their subjects and enthused about learning.”

“I believe this school is a shining example of what Hackney schools can accomplish with the correct vision, the right leadership and the adequate support. The staff here have the ambition to make this school achieve even more next year and I have no doubts that they will realise this goal.”
